For nearly 20 years I've supported people navigating trauma, stress and burnout.  Through my work with healthcare professionals, I've seen the impact of compassion fatigue, secondary trauma and the emotional demands of caring for others.

Welcome 

I'm Sarah, and I've created this online group space because of what I've witnessed in my private practice - so many people struggling in isolation.

 

I have a Master’s in Social Work and have spent nearly 20 years supporting people through stress, change, burnout, loss, relationship struggles, and the general complexity of being human. Over the years, I’ve seen how powerful it can be when people realize they’re not carrying things alone. Between busy schedules, caregiving, work stress, distance, and the pace of life right now, meaningful connection and support can be hard to find.

 

These groups are designed to bring people together in a way that feels genuine, supportive, and accessible from wherever they are. My hope is that people leave feeling more understood, more grounded, and a little less alone in what they are carrying.

Sometimes being understood is the whole thing.

Running on Empty: Support and Skills for Nurses


​​Burnout looks different for nurses and caregivers. Beyond exhaustion, you’re carrying the weight of other people’s pain, navigating a system that often prevents you from giving the care you know your patients deserve, and absorbing grief and trauma that never fully gets processed. That’s not regular burnout — and it won’t heal with a day off and a bubble bath.

​​​Many nurses I’ve worked with describe feeling emotionally drained after shifts, replaying difficult moments long after getting home, and never quite recovering between them. They talk about guilt around setting limits, feeling numb or disconnected, sleeping poorly, and quietly wondering whether they’re cut out for this work.

And almost all of them feel like they’re the only one struggling this much.

During and after COVID, I began seeing more and more nurses in my practice dealing with burnout — particularly early-career nurses navigating the realities of the profession while also holding themselves to impossibly high standards. So many people were carrying all of this alone, and I wanted to create somewhere they didn’t have to.

Running on Empty is a small, therapist-led online group for nurses who are feeling burnt out, depleted, or overwhelmed by the demands of their work. It combines practical tools and strategies with honest conversation and genuine support from other nurses who understand what this job actually asks of you.​This isn’t a space to just vent — and it’s not a lecture. It’s a place where nurses can better understand what burnout is doing to them, learn ways to manage stress and emotional exhaustion, and start to feel more grounded and connected again.
